Provides direct assistance to surgeons before, during and after surgical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

**Job Description:**

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our team at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. As an RNFA, you will play a critical role in providing direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.

**Responsibilities:**

* Positions patients to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety
* Implements physicians' orders to provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation
* Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems
* Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs
* Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

**Requirements:**

* Completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program
* Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty
* APRN that has completed the RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program
* Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification
* Registered Professional Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of work location
